Algonquin Jazz Ensemble Has Two Performances In Manasquan

originally published: 07/30/2014
(MANASQUAN, NJ) -- The newly formed Algonquin Jazz Ensemble swings around Manasquan this weekend with performances on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m.

Saturday's concert will be held at Main Beach in Manasquan at 6 p.m. and is free to attend.

On Sunday, the 21-member ensemble moves inside to a more intimate setting at the Manasquan Elks Lodge for a "Jazz Party" which in addition to some of the century's best big-band music will feature hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar starting at 6 p.m.

Tickets for Sunday night ($20 for adults, $15 for students 17 & under) can be purchased online at algonquinarts.org or at the theatre box office at 732-528-9211. The Manasquan Elks Lodge is located at 17 Stockton Lake Boulevard in Manasquan, and tickets will be available at the door.

Led by Wall Intermediate School Band Director Steve Bryant and Bordentown Regional Band Director Mike Montalto, the Algonquin Jazz Ensemble is the newest component of the Algonquin's Performing Arts Academy and features area musicians from 8th, 9th and 10th grades who successfully auditioned.

The goal of the ensemble is to expose musicians to all areas of jazz, encourage students to continue practicing during the summer months and provide performance opportunities to share their talents with the public. The opportunity to play a professional-style gig in which they serve as the entertainment is a great experience that can connect generations.
