Aisling Fiona Fagan, 10 Year Old Actress From Red Bank, To Star In "The Little Match Girl" Off-Broadway

originally published: 02/09/2020

(NEW YORK, NY) -- At the young age of 10 years old, Aisling Fiona Fagan is already making a name for herself in the entertainment industry. Growing up in Red Bank and attending St. James Elementary school, Aisling is a trained actress, singer and dancer, who is also a member of the prestigious Broadway Youth Ensemble in NYC, recently performing at Carnegie Hall.

This month she is taking on the off-Broadway theater scene as the lead role in The Little Match Girl at St. Luke’s Theatre Center, the home of off-Broadway Hits, starting February 13 and running through February 23.

"I am so excited to take on the role of The Little Match Girl at St. Luke’s Theatre! This is a character who goes on a very complex and emotional journey and I am looking forward to the challenge of portraying this journey in an honest and real way," says Aisling.

This iconic story by Hans Christian Anderson comes to life in this brand-new musical adaptation, set to a contemporary score filled with soaring melodies. Set on New Year’s Eve, the Little Match Girl is forced onto the streets to sell matches to support her family.

No stranger to the entrepreneurial world, Aisling started her own business, One Bag, One World, where she collects goods for Lunch Break and Monmouth Day Care's Pantry, two non-profits who help those in need in our area.

Yaya Kids Theater and Ting Wang present the New York Premiere production of the musical The Little Match Girl, directed and choreographed by the award-winning Greg Ganakas. Based on the story by Hans Christian Anderson, with book by Oxygen Media, lyrics and additional book by Jeff Edmond and music and musical direction by Alastair William King, The Little Match Girl will play a two-week limited engagement at Off-Broadway’s St. Luke’s Theatre. Performances begin Thursday, February 13 and continue through Sunday, February 23.

The Little Match Girl is set to a contemporary score filled with soaring melodies. It’s New Year’s Eve, and the Little Match Girl is forced onto the streets to sell matches to support her family. Cold and alone, her wondrous imagination takes her away from the harsh realities and struggles of her daily life. Armed with match sticks and music, she finds the hope we all need.

“While modernizing this timeless classic, I intend to uplift the tragic story of the Little Match Girl, while staying true to the story and Victorian era costumes and scenery,” says director Ganakas. “Through magical realism, she conjures up images of her family in the most cherished times of her life, offering hope in her time of need. As theater offers escapism, so does the imagination captured by this little girl, and therefore we lose ourselves in her journey.”

In addition to Aisling Fiona Fagan, the production stars Madi Beumee, Elizabeth Flanagan, Max P. Fowler, Dayna Grayber, Angelina Gui, Yanni Metaxas, Tony Mowatt, and Christopher Swan.

The production is associate directed by Kelli Barclay (Himself and Nora, Minetta Lane Theatre), features scenic design by Joshua Warner (Pass Over, Brooklyn College), costume design by Gail Baldoni (Miss Saigon, Cape Playhouse), and lighting/projections by Zach Lobel (The Queen at the Crown). Riley Thomas is the stage manager and Katie LaMark is the assistant stage manager. Publicity by Katie Rosin/Kampfire PR and General Management by Sharon Fallon Productions.

The Little Match Girl plays the following regular schedule through Sunday, February 23:  Thursday, Feb 13 at 8:00pm; Opening, Saturday, Feb 15 at 2:00pm; Sunday, Feb 16 at 2:00pm; Thursday, Feb 20 at 8:00pm; Saturday, Feb 22 at 2:00pm; and Sunday, Feb 23 at 2:00pm.

Tickets are $29.50-$59.50 and are now available online at www.Telecharge.com or by calling 212-239-6200. Tickets may also be purchased in-person at the St. Lukes Box Office or at the theatre a half hour prior to performance.
