AC Ballet Holds 3 Free Monday Matinee Performances

originally published: 09/28/2015

(ATLANTIC CITY, NJ) -- The Atlantic City Ballet brings in the Fall season with 3 free performances. As part of the ballet’s Everyday Dance Initiative and the commitment to make ballet accessible to everyone, these Monday Matinees will be free and open to the public. Partially funded by the CRDA and hosted by the Trump Taj Mahal, Monday Matinees will take place at 12 noon giving many people who may not be able to attend an evening performance the opportunity to see the ballet.

The ballet is also reaching out to community organizations and encouraging them to attend the performances. “By making these performances free, we open our doors to some people who may never even consider coming to a performance because of financial constraints.” says Phyllis Papa, Artistic Director. The company recognizes that the area has been going through some tough times, so this is an opportunity to give back and also allow residents to experience Atlantic City’s resident professional ballet company. The AC Ballet will present 3 different ballets. First is Ballet Goes Broadway which premiered last season and will have live music. The second will be In the Eye of the Storm, an uplifting and inspiring ballet, which was created in the wake of the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy and will be performed right around the third anniversary of the storm. And the third will be Midsummer Night’s Dream, a classic ballet that is a favorite for ballet fans of all ages.

Founded in 1982, by International Ballerina, Phyllis Papa, the Atlantic City Ballet is comprised of professional dancers from around the world and have earned national acclaim for their technical expertise and exuberant stage presence. Although their home base is in Historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, the Ballet has performed in theaters all along the east coast. Their repertoire of original works includes such classics as A Midsummer Night's Dream, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake but Ms. Papa is most known for her innovative works such as Dracula, Caught Up In The Swing and her full length Carmen. Since its inception, the Atlantic City Ballet has served as one of the cultural treasures of New Jersey and continues a tradition of dance excellence for future generations of ballet audiences.

All Monday Matinees will take place at The Trump Taj Mahal Arena, A.C. at 12 noon.
