(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC) presents Vero Cendoya’s “BOGUMER (or Sons of Lunacharsky),” a live-streamed performance, on Saturday, October 9, at 12:00pm. Continuing JCTC’s third annual Voices International Theatre Festival, “BOGUMER” tells the story of Anatoly Lunacharsky, a member of Vladimir Lenin's People's Commissar, who organizes a trial against – and ultimately the execution of – God. Set in 1918 Moscow, audiences meet seven protagonists who express a society forever changed by the loss of its leader.
“Vero Cendoya’s ‘BOGUMER’ illustrates the power of giving voice to the people,” says Olga Levina, JCTC's co-founder and executive producer. “This act of democracy and rebellion reinforces a greater message: to be a true democracy, one must allow freedom of art and a place for representation.”
“BOGUMER” first premiered in April 2021 at the Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona, Spain, and has been nominated for multiple awards, including Max Awards for best musical composition, best choreography, and best dance show. It is presented through Cendoya’s dance-theatre company, Cia. Vero Cendoya, and in collaboration with the Institut Ramon Llul.
The virtual event will be followed by an artist talkback with Cendoya, actor Laia Martí and dancers Carlos Fernández and Linn Johansson. Tickets ($10) for the virtual event are available for purchase online.
