Anika Noni Rose To Host Crossroads' Virtual Gala On May 20th

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- TONY® Award-winning actress Anika Noni Rose will be joined by stars of stage, and screen to salute the artistry, excellence and advocacy of trailblazer and acting icon Cicely Tyson at Crossroads Theatre Company’s second annual fundraising gala A Night with Crossroads to be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 7:00pm. The “live” event, which has pivoted to a virtual one, will also include presenting global healthcare company Johnson & Johnson with Crossroads’ first Champion of the Arts Award for its support of the arts, especially Crossroads Theatre Company. A Night with Crossroads will be available live via the website especially designed for the event. 

Paul Whelihan, Pushcart Players Artistic Director, Performs “ART” Zoom Reading

Pushcart Players artistic director Paul Whelihan will perform in Zoom readings of “ART,” a play by Yasmine Reza on Thursday May 6 and Friday May 7 at 7:30pm. The production is directed by Dov Tiefenbach. It explores friendship, mortality, and, of course, art. The performance is free, yet welcome donations will benefit Pushcart Players, and the future live production.

Centenary Stage Company’s Women Playwrights Series Continues On April 28 with "Cotton's Tale"

(HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- The third reading in this spring’s Women Playwrights Series at Centenary Stage Company is Pauline David-Sax’s Cotton’s Tale taking place on Wednesday, April 28th at 7:30pm in the Sitnik Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center. Admission to the WPS event is by donation and advance reservations are highly encouraged as seating is assigned and limited.  A minimum $5.00 donation is required to reserve in advance. 


Teenage guitar ace plays The Stanhope House on May 7

(STANHOPE, NJ) -- There will be music in the air – literally – on Friday, May 7, when Brandon “Taz” Niederauer and his band perform outdoors as part of the spring/summer concert series at The Stanhope House in Sussex County.  The 18-year-old guitarist and singer-songwriter has played with a who’s who of the rock-blues-roots scene, tours nationally and made his national TV debut at age 10. Tickets are $30 for this all-ages show, plus $3 fee online, and are available for purchase online.

Blue Hawk Records Releases “Eighteen”

(WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- Eighteen is a consequential age; it marks the border between youth and adulthood, between adolescent angst and alleged independence. Blue Hawk Records, the student-run record label at Monmouth University, wanted to capture that transitory stage and spirit in the mood and music of its 18th compilation EP, aptly titled, “Eighteen.” 

Paterson Music Project Students Accepted Into Los Angeles Philharmonic YOLA National Festival

(PATERSON, NJ) -- The Paterson Music Project (PMP), a program of the Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts, has announced that students Geanelly Vallecillo and Rachael Diaz have been accepted into the prestigious Los Angeles Philharmonic’s YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) National Festival. An intensive orchestral training program, the YOLA National Festival is open to students ages 12-18 from El Sistema-inspired programs and similar initiatives from across the country that are invested in youth and community development through music education.

NJ Festival Orchestra presents “New Beginnings” Premiering May 20

New Jersey Festival Orchestra is back! Stars from the Broadway stage, international opera houses and Dance Theatre of Harlem join NJFO to present New Beginnings, a musical message of hope, rebirth and enrichment. Featuring renowned tenor fare, dazzling dance classics and Broadway favorites, this NJFO made-for-television streaming special is set to restart the artistic engines and bring joy and hope to audiences in the Garden State and beyond. It premieres on May 20.


Visual Arts Center of NJ Presents Shows by Nancy Cohen and Katrina Bello

(SUMMIT, NJ) -- The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey presents two shows by New Jersey artists: Nancy Cohen: Atlas of Impermanence and Katrina Bello: Knowable Earth, which will be on view through June 12th.  To provide the safest viewing experience possible, visitors must make reservations through artcenternj.org for limited, one-hour time slots.

art629 Gallery Presents "Peace In The Chaos"

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) --  art629 Gallery presents "Peace In The Chaos" - an exhibit featuring the work of 12 local artists and 4 poets curated by Brittany James. Brittany is a local artist who has been the resident art teacher at art629 for the past 6 years where she teaches life drawing and painting classes, and hosts an open studio. The exhibit will be on display from May 15 through July 10. On Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 6:00pm-9:00pm, art629 Gallery will host an opening reception for the exhibit.


Lewis Center For The Arts Presents Three Events Available Virtually In May

All three events are free and open to the public, advance registration is required for the evening of new dance works.

Northern New Jersey Community Foundation Awards Grant to Dr. John Grieco Scholarship Fund for 2021 Englewood Idol

(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) has announced the award of a grant for $1,500 to The Dr. John Grieco Scholarship Fund at the Academies at Englewood for the 2021 Englewood Idol talent competition.  The grant award supports the creation of five virtual Englewood Idol shows for students ranging in age from pre-kindergarten through the twelfth grade in high school to raise scholarship money for students at Dwight Morrow High School and the Academies at Englewood.
