REVIEW: Air Supply "Lost in Love Tour" at Bergen PAC

When a band has been performing together for 45 years, have never had a fight, and are best friends, you know they are something special.

Air Supply is THAT band.

Tonight (February 28) at Bergen PAC in Englewood, New Jersey, Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock and the rest of Air Supply made their audience feel special too. Throughout their set, you could hear the audience singing along, swaying, dancing in the aisles, people wiping their eyes as they swelled with tears at some of the most beautiful love songs ever written.

Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell were performing in a production of “Jesus Christ, Superstar” in Australia, where they are from and began their journey together as Air Supply on May 12, 1975. We are all so fortunate that this duo met and has been making great music together ever since. At almost 70 and 71 years old, they sound as great as ever, and Mr. Hitchcock has no problems still hitting those high notes. Mr. Russell often says that he is the songwriter and not the singer, but don’t let him fool you. He has an amazing voice that beautifully compliments his best friend, Mr. Russell.

Singing so many of their hits, such as “Even The Nights Are Better,” “Just As I Am,” “Here I am,” “Two Less Lonely People in The World” and “Making Love Out of Nothing At All” among others makes for a great night of music. A relatively new song by Mr. Russell, the songwriter of the duo titled “Son Of A Father” is one that hopefully will be sung every night. It is a beautiful tribute to his Father.

A highlight of the show is “The One That You Love” when both Mr. Russell and Mr. Hitchcock leave the stage and walk down the aisles, getting up close and personal with their audience, even stopping along the way for selfies with their fans.

One couple knows Air Supply very well. Peter and Rachael Miller drove all the way from Maryland to see the show. “We met at a show in the mid 80’s,” said Peter. “A few months later, we were at the same show, seated next to one another,” he continued. They started dating, fell in love, and married 2 years later, and their song was “Now and Forever.” Mr. Russell and Mr. Hitchcock sing

“Now and forever / Remember the words

From my heart will always be true

Now and forever / Together and all that I feel

Here's my love for for you”

They have 3 children and have brought them all to see Air Supply, but not as many times as the couple has seen the band (they estimate that they have seen them over 100 times).

Let’s hope Air Supply continues to delight audiences for another 45 years. If you have never seen this band, make it a must, they are THAT good!
