Lord Stirling Theater Company Presents "The Importance Of Being Earnest"

George Street Playhouse's Annual Gala Exceeds Fundraising Goals

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- George Street Playhouse’s Annual Gala Benefit, held Sunday, May 5 at the Heldrich Hotel in downtown New Brunswick shattered fundraising goals this year to become the organization’s highest grossing Gala in history, an achievement that punctuated an already celebratory evening as George Street and its patrons look eagerly ahead to the completion of its permanent new home in The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center this fall.

Ahmad Jamal: A Living Legend of Jazz To Make His McCarter Debut

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- What becomes a legend most?  How often do we get the chance to experience an artist who gives new meaning to the word? Legends come and go to the point where the phrase “living legend” all too easily lapses into cliché. But in the jazz world there is only one true “living legend” still active amongst us, a man who observes his 89th birthday on July 2nd -  a man who started playing the piano at the age of three, and is still going strong today - 86 years later - a pianist who calls jazz “America’s classical music.” His name? Ahmad Jamal. And he will perform for the very first time ever at McCarter Theatre in Princeton on Saturday, May 18 at 8:00pm in the Matthews Theatre.    


The Atlantic Wind Ensemble To Perform In Ocean Grove On Memorial Day Weekend

(OCEAN GROVE, NJ) -- In the spirit of the Memorial Day holiday, the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association (OGCMA) will kick off its 150th summer season with a free concert by the Atlantic Wind Ensemble on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 8:00pm in the Great Auditorium. 


McCarter Presents Jazz In June

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- McCarter Theatre presents Jazz in June - a festival featuring five events in the Berlind Theatre from June 7-22.  Performers include Cecile McLorin Salvant; Christian McBride and Tip City; Bill Frisell Trio; Bill Charlap Trio; and the Vijay Iyer Sextet.


New Jersey Jazz Society Scholarship Winners to Perform at May 19th Social

(MADISON, NJ) -- The New Jersey Jazz Society funds annual partial scholarship grants at five New Jersey universities with degree programs in jazz studies: Montclair State, New Jersey City University, Rowan, William Paterson, and Rutgers. This year’s scholarships totaled $7,900. On Sunday, May 19th, scholarship winners from four of those schools will perform as part of an All-Star College Ensemble at the NJJS monthly jazz social held at Shanghai Jazz in Madison.


Visenya To Release Debut EP

(PISCATAWAY, NJ) -- Visenya, a four-piece band from Piscataway, will release their debut EP, Common Place, on May 31.  The Rock / Alternative / Post-Hardcoreband will celebrate its release on June 1st with a special basement show in Bound Brook. 


Westminster Conservatory Noontime Recitals end Season with the Volanti Flute Quartet

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The last event in the 2018-19 season of Westminster Conservatory at Nassau will take place on Thursday, May 16 at 12:15pm and will feature the Volanti Flute Quartet.  The performers; flutists Jill Crawford, Ellen Fisher Deerberg, Katherine McClure, and Barbara Williams; are members of the Westminster Conservatory faculty.  The recital will take place in the Niles Chapel of Nassau Presbyterian Church, 61 Nassau Street in Princeton and is open to the public free of charge.

(NEWTON, NJ) -- From the minds of improv and comedy legend Colin Mochrie and Master Hypnotist Asad Mecci comes a brand new, mind-blowing, jaw-dropping, side-splitting show. Hypnosis and Improv -- two art forms that have mystified and entertained fans, skeptics and everyone in between for decades worldwide – come together as two masters of their crafts unite for a totally unique comedy experience, HYPROV: Improv Under Hypnosis. The show comes to The Newton Theatre on Thursday, October 10 at 7:30pm.

Nimbus Theater Hosts 5th Annual In Full Color

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- The fifth annual In Full Color, a production featuring women of color from around the country, will be performed at Nimbus Dance June 6-9, 2019 in the Nimbus Theater, 165 Newark Avenue, Jersey City, NJ. In Full Color is a performance by Thinking in Full Color, an award-winning organization that empowers women of color through education and the arts. This year’s production of In Full Color features stories about mother-daughter relationships, identity, and immigrants losing touch with their ancestral homes. The unique theatrical platform gives voice to women of color, allowing them to take ownership of their stories and create cultural dialogues.

Rowan University Exhibit Showcases Past and Present of SOHO20 Art Collective

History is a powerful force, bringing the past forward and revealing clear connections between the world today and events and experiences that occurred before. So, when history beckoned, Rowan University Art Gallery responded with its current exhibition “Women Defining Themselves: The Original Artists of the SOHO 20,” on view at the Gallery at 301 High Street in Glassboro through July 27.


Roebling Gallery To Present "Trent-towne" by Edwin J. Torres

(TRENTON, NJ) -- As part of its ongoing First Friday series of art openings, Roebling Gallery will exhibit the work of Edwin J. Torres on June 7th, 2019 from 6:00pm-9:00pm at Roebling Lofts in Trenton. Trent-towne is a documentary project that seeks to tell the present day story of Trenton and its people. This work celebrates the beauty of everyday life, but also calls to question issues of poverty, crime, and immigration. Edwin J. Torres spent over a year photographing a series of portraits, conducting interviews, and revisiting iconic and lesser known locations in Trenton in an effort to answer the question of what’s really going on?
