(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey has unveiled its 2019-20 Broadway Season, featuring eight fantastic Broadway shows. The 2019-20 Season will feature Tony Award®-winning hits, beloved classics, and some State Theatre debuts.  The season includes Beautiful, The SpongeBob Musical, Jersey Boys, Fiddler On The Roof, The Color Purple, The Play That Goes Wrong, Cats, and Once On This Island.

Beautiful (November 8-10, 2019) --  For five years, Beautiful, the Tony® and Grammy® Award-winning Carole King musical, has thrilled Broadway with the inspiring true story of one woman’s remarkable journey from teenage songwriter to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. From the string of pop classics she wrote for the biggest acts in music to her own life-changing, chart-busting success with Tapestry, Beautiful takes you back to where it all began—and takes you on the ride of a lifetime. Featuring a stunning array of beloved songs, including “You’ve Got a Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “Up on the Roof,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” and “Natural Woman.”

The SpongeBob Musical (Nov 29 - Dec 1, 2019) -- A legendary roster of Grammy Award®-winners. A visionary director and a Tony Award®-winning design team. One of the world’s most beloved characters. Turn them loose on stage and what do you get? The musical The New York Times declares, “BRILLIANT!” Broadway’s best creative minds reimagine and bring to life the beloved Nickelodeon series with humor, heart, and pure theatricality in “a party for the eyes and ears” (Daily Beast). Explore the depths of theatrical innovation in The SpongeBob Musical, 2018 Best Musical winner of the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, where the power of optimism really can save the world.

Tony Award®-winning director Bartlett Sher and the team behind South Pacific, The King and I, and 2017 Tony®-winning Best Play Oslo, bring a fresh and authentic vision to this beloved theatrical masterpiece from Tony®-winner Joseph Stein and Pulitzer Prize winners Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick. Featuring stunning movement and dance from Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter, based on the original staging by Jerome Robbins.

The Play That Goes Wrong (April 2 - 4, 2020) -- The time is right to see THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG, Broadway’s funniest smash hit! This Olivier Award-winning comedy is a hilarious hybrid of Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes. Welcome to opening night of The Murder at Haversham Manor where things are quickly going from bad to utterly disastrous. With an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines), it’s “A RIOTOUS EXPLOSION OF COMEDY!” (The Daily Beast) and “TONS OF FUN FOR ALL AGES!” (HuffPost). Cats (May 8 - 10, 2020) -- Audiences and critics alike are rediscovering this beloved musical with breathtaking music, including one of the most treasured songs in musical theater—“Memory.” Winner of 7 Tony Awards® including Best Musical, Cats tells the story of one magical night when an extraordinary tribe of cats gathers for its annual ball to rejoice and decide which cat will be reborn. With original score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, original scenic and costume design by John Napier, all-new lighting design by Natasha Katz, all-new sound design by Mick Potter, new choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and direction by Trevor Nunn make this production a new Cats for a new generation!

Once On This Island (June 5 - 7, 2020) -- Winner of the 2018 Tony Award® for Best Revival of a Musical, this is the sweeping, universal tale of Ti Moune, a fearless peasant girl in search of her place in the world, and ready to risk it all for love. Guided by the mighty island gods, Ti Moune sets out on a remarkable journey to reunite with the man who has captured her heart. It’s the groundbreaking vision of two-time Tony Award® nominated director Michael Arden and acclaimed choreographer Camille A. Brown. With a score that bursts with life from Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, the Tony Award®-winning songwriters of Anastasia and Ragtime, Once On This Island is a timeless testament to theater’s unlimited possibilities.

State Theatre New Jersey is offering season tickets to its Broadway Series. Season ticket holders are able to order their series tickets months before single tickets go on sale to the general public. They are also able to secure some of the best seats in the historic theater and those seats will remain theirs, year after year, for as long as they remain season ticket holders. Season tickets also come with many added benefits such as 20% savings off single ticket prices—like getting one Broadway show free—ticket exchanges within the series, and a bring your friends discount that allows single tickets (once on sale) to be added on at a 15% savings off single ticket prices. A new, and much sought-after, season ticket benefit has been added: free parking to all season ticket shows for any season ticket holder who purchases two or more 7- or 8-show season tickets.
