(ASBURY PARK, NJ) --The ShowRoom will host a short-filmmaking contest in conjunction with the first-annual Asbury Park Independent Film Festival, happening September 24 through 26. Calling on the creative talents of aspiring filmmakers from far and wide, The AP in 3 Film Challenge will ask its competitors to make a short film that best reflects the spirit and diversity of Asbury Park.
The AP in 3 Film Challenge will encompass all aspects of moviemaking for competitors, including writing, shooting, editing and scoring the films. What is The ShowRoom's catch? Each movie can only be three minutes long and must be completed in the designated 48-hour window of competition.
"Asbury Park is a city that was home to seven movie theaters in its heyday," said Michael Sodano, co-owner of The ShowRoom. "The return of film is an important element to the city's renaissance. As the only independent movie theater in such an arts-driven city, The ShowRoom aims to support aspiring filmmakers and foster increased awareness of this artistic medium in Asbury Park."
Competing teams will meet at The ShowRoom on Friday, September 24 at 4:00 p.m. to start the Challenge. Each group will choose a genre and then receive a prop and line of dialog that must be included in the three-minute film; these specifications ensure the prevention of any pre-competition footage being used in the Challenge.
After what promises to be a demanding 48 hours, all films must be completed and delivered to The ShowRoom by 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26. A panel of judges will then review all entries and the top 10 films will receive a special screening in front of the Asbury Park Independent Film Festival audience on that same evening at The ShowRoom. The first-place winner and runner-up will also be the recipients of prize packages from The ShowRoom and AP in 3 Film Challenge sponsors.
Space for the AP in 3 Film Challenge will be limited to a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is $25.00 and will close at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23.
