Monologues @MONDO

In the summer of 2014, Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre presented a series of solo works as readings at MONDO, the cultural gathering place in downtown Summit. The series was received with such enthusiasm, that since then they return to MONDO every summer with their Monologues@MONDO series.

Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 8:00pm - Ann by Holland Taylor  Ann is an intimate, no-holds-barred portrait of Ann Richards, the legendary late Governor of Texas. This inspiring and hilarious play brings us face to face with a complex, colorful and captivating character bigger than the state from which she hailed. Written and originally performed by Emmy Award-winner Holland Taylor, ANN takes a revealing look at the impassioned woman who enriched the lives of her followers, friends and family. Featuring: Noreen Farley

Thursday, July 13,  2017 at 8:00pm - All the Rage by Martin Moran Martin wondered for most of his adult life about anger. Surely he should have more rage about the crime he experienced as a boy, shouldn’t he? Everyone thinks so. The question haunts him and sends him on a quest from west of the Rockies to south of Johannesburg. Jumping from dream to memory to fact, he finds himself in an electric encounter with his fuming stepmother, lost in Africa with a guide who can’t read maps, in a room translating the details of an asylum seeker’s torture. With equal parts honesty and entertainment, All The Rage attempts to solve an ancient human riddle: How is it that one moment we might reach out in compassion and the next…kill? Featuring: Harry Patrick Christian

Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 8:00pm - The Night Watcher by Charlayne Woodard Simultaneously a best friend, mentor, psychologist, and surrogate mother to the many young people who call her “Auntie,” Charlayne Woodard is childless only by biological standards. Told with penetrating grace, candor and wit, The Night Watcher is the story of a woman who chooses not to have children—only to be pulled into the real-life struggles of kids of all ages, races and backgrounds. Featuring: Nicole Callender

Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 8:00pm - The Only Worse Thing You Could Have Told Me

 by Dan Butler
Billed as a “whirlwind tour of the gay American landscape,” this one-man show juxtaposes ten predominantly gay characters in fourteen vignettes. Moving, funny and eye-opening, The Only Thing Worse… turns inside out the experiences and perceptions surrounding gayness in modern America. The characters question, contradict and especially challenge one another’s credo of what “being gay” really means. Featuring: Scott McGowan
