(ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- Donovan, the iconic singer/songwriter whose hit single “Sunshine Superman,” topped the charts fifty years ago, will celebrate the occasion of this momentous musical event at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (BergenPAC) in Englewood, NJ, on June 1, 2017 at 8:00pm.
A 2012 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it’s been said that Donovan “singlehandedly initiated the psychedelic revolution” with his album, Sunshine Superman. Not only was this recording the first to announce “flower power,” but it has also been noted that as a cultural force, Donovan is “chiefly responsible for introducing meditation and Eastern philosophy into modern lifestyle and songwriting.”
Now, a half century after his debut appearance in the United States, Donovan returns to America for this historic 50th anniversary concert tour. In addition to his #1 hit “Sunshine Superman,” other Donovan audience favorites include such classic tunes as “Mellow Yellow,” “Hurdy Gurdy Man,” “Atlantis,” “Wear Your Love Like Heaven,” and “Jennifer Juniper.”
On the heels of sold-out shows at Carnegie Hall, this performance at BergenPAC takes place just months after Donovan received the 36th annual “John Lennon Real Love Award” in New York City. Donovan is credited for teaching Lennon in the 1960s the finger-picking guitar style he employed in songs including “Dear Prudence,” “Julia,” and more.
Tickets for Donovan’s “Sunshine Superman” 50th Anniversary concert at BergenPAC are available at wmconcerts.com, ticketmaster.com, and at the BergenPAC box office. In addition, a limited number of VIP “meet and greet” tickets are currently available for this performance to benefit the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace at www.donovan.ie.
bergenPAC is located at 30 North Van Brunt Street in Englewood, New Jersey.
