Center Players Presents "The Bishop's Wife" Radio Play

originally published: 11/20/2021

(FREEHOLD, NJ) -- Center Players presents The Bishop’s Wife, a live radio play, at Center Playhouse, 35 South Street, Freehold, from December 3-12th. The script is adapted by Dave McGrath, and is based on the 1936 novel of the same name by Robert Nathan.

Dejected by his efforts to raise money to build a cathedral, Bishop Henry Brougham beseeches heaven for guidance, and is visited immediately by Dudley who claims to be an angel. Henry is skeptical, then annoyed, when Dudley ingratiates himself into the household as his assistant -- and worse, wins the attentions of Henry's long-suffering and kindly wife. When Dudley continues to intervene in Henry's struggles, the bishop decides to challenge heaven. As a radio play, the actors will be costumed but will have scripts in hand. McGrath (Long Branch, NJ), who most recently directed Dial M for Murder at the Playhouse in 2019, will also direct this production.

“We were very excited to reopen the Playhouse in October, with a successful production of California Suite,” noted Center Players President Sheldon Fallon. “We will continue to follow COVID safety protocols to allow audiences to enjoy this heartwarming holiday show in a community setting.”

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. Tickets are priced from $25-28 and available online at www.centerplayers.org or by calling 732-462-9093.

To ensure the safety of cast, crew and patrons, COVID protocols are in place. All patrons must wear a mask while inside the Playhouse, and must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test taken within 48 hours of entering the theater. Center Players is also offering a flexible ticket policy, allowing patrons to exchange tickets in the event of illness.
