New Jersey-based alt-rock/powerpop band The Paper Jets have completed work on their new EP, Almost Nine, which is set for release on May 26 via the independent FDR Label. The EP features four new tracks, including the single “Elizabeth Distressed,” which recently premiered on Infectious Magazine’s website and was described as “ridiculously infectious” by Mark Barton of The Sunday Experience.
The EP consists of two previously unrecorded live staples – “Elizabeth Distressed” and “Of an Extrovert” – as well as the newly written “Brand New Shoes” and cover song “Jo Don’t Let Me.” Originally written and recorded by late band member Tim Ryan for his 2009 solo album Love at First Night, “Jo Don’t Let Me” is dedicated to the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s memory following a tragic car accident that took his life in 2011.
Almost Nine follows the band’s critically acclaimed debut album, We Are All Strange Friends, which was dubbed “a terrifically entertaining record” by The Aquarian Weekly and named one of Jersey Beat’s Top NJ Releases of 2013. The record’s single “Cooking Up an Accident” received airplay on Philadelphia alternative rock radio station Radio 104.5, and the band performed live on-air for the station’s Live at Five series, ultimately being named one of their Top 25 Local Bands of 2014. They also supported the release with a summer tour of the South that hit venues in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina as well as iconic rock club The Bitter End in New York City, World Café Live and Xfinity Live in Philadelphia, and their adopted home base of The Triumph Brewing Company in New Hope, PA, where they are well-known for their raucous homecoming shows.
