(SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- A new music festival produce by South Orange Village and Seton Hall University, in partnership with the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) will take place June 26-28. The festival's name is South By South Orange Festival -- a play on the popular festival in Austin. The festival was conceived as an opportunity to shine the spotlight on the creative process and showcase the many ways that arts, science and creativity “collide” to produce innovation.
The Festival’s theme is “Creative Collisions”, showcasing the interesting aspects of our lives that at first glance appear incongruent, yet end up providing for deep satisfaction and interest. A workshop featuring the improvisation of software development and interface design side by side with the improvisation of a live band, otherwise known as the Teching Ball, is just one exhibition that places technology and the arts side by side.
Scheduled over a 3-day period in late June, SOXSO will feature 12 creative and interactive sessions designed to introduce participants to exciting concepts like “How to Make Makers for the Makers Movement” and “The Art of Story in the New Digital Universe.”
As many as 15 musical performances will take place throughout South Orange Village, and most notably at the South Orange Performing Arts Center’s mainstage theatre and Loft.
A “Creative Midway” of unique participatory happenings and community art projects will be a unique kick-off event at SOPAC that will feature a three-ring circus /cocktail party with lots of opportunities for live music performances as well as unusual technology projects.
“Creative Collisions” is a natural theme for South Orange, where so many different types of people, ideas and sensibilities collide every day and help to shape the dynamic conversation and vitality engendered by the residents of South Orange,” says Trustee Stephen Schnall, the festival’s founder.
