U2 is a rock band from Dublin, Ireland that released their first record in 1980. It's fair to say they are one of a handful of bands that literally changed my life.
I was lucky to have a friend who used to grab records from the "import bin" at the record store long before anyone else I knew did. He turned me on to U2 very early on and my love for the band grew with each release.
They are the alt-rock world's equivalent of The Beatles.
I can still remember the first time I played "Joshua Tree"... song after song was amazing. It's the kind of album artists dream of making - one that defines a band. And U2 released albums that good in three or four different decades. Simply remarkable!
U2 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
