U2 is a rock band from Dublin, Ireland that released their first record in 1980. It's fair to say they are one of a handful of bands that literally changed my life.
I was lucky to have a friend who used to grab records from the "import bin" at the record store long before anyone else I knew did. He turned me on to U2 very early on and my love for the band grew with each release.
IMO, they are the alt-rock world's equivalent of The Beatles.
I was a big fan of their first album and loved their second, but "War" was the album that raised them to the level of best band in the world.
