Michael McDermott is a singer-songwriter from Chicago. Actually, he's one hell of a singer-songwriter - among the best of his generation, imo. One guy who would likely agree with me is Stephen King. The famous author has quoted lyrics by McDermott in at least two of his novels.
This was the album that introduced his music to me. I think I probably heard "Just West of Eden" on the radio. His epic track, "The Idler, The Prophet and a Girl Named Rain" remains one of my favorites.
