Days Awake was a great rock band from New Jersey in the early part of the 2000s. They infused a classic rock sound into every song and put on incredible live shows. Unfortunately, the band only managed to record one EP in the studio.
I'm thankful this was one of the songs on that EP. It's a terrific track.
There are moments in time from the period when I covered Asbury Park's music scene that are burned into my memory. The period with Days Awake are one of them.

On July 25th, Tift Merritt shared "Last Day I Knew What To Do," a previously unreleased song from the original Tambourine recording sessions. Tracked with a full band and produced by George Drakoulias over two decades ago, the song was recorded for the album but was ultimately left off the final release. Now, 20 years later, it sees the light of day as part of Merritt's forthcoming collection Time and Patience, out August 29, 2025 via One Riot Records.
