Violent Femmes
"Violent Femmes"

Released in 1983

Violent Femmes are a folk punk band from Wisconsin that was one of the seminal bands of the 1980s. Their self-titled debut remains one of the most important 80s albums, imo. I'll never forget being in the Washington, DC area for a soccer tournament as a teenager and going to a party with the guy we were staying at. Every single person at the party knew all of the words to every song on that record and they all had their own copy. Unfortunately for the band, none of them had ever purchased the record - they all just made tapes of it from each other.
