Fountains of Wayne was a band from New York City named after a lawn ornament store in Wayne, NJ. They were led by Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood who met at college. This album is one of my favorites of all-time. It came in as the #1 album in my book of Top 100 Albums by New Jersey artists from 2001-2010 (Schlesinger is from Montclair). That's out of several thousand records!
This album is probably best known for the hit "Stacy's Mom", but every song is terrific. It reminded me of a modern day Beatles album - something like Revolver. It's the type of record with lyrics that are instantly memorable and you find yourself spinning it non-stop. Even two decades later, it sounds as fresh as ever.
