WXPN to Release "Homegrown Originals Volume 3" for Record Store Day

originally published: 03/30/2025

(PHILADELPHIA, NJ) -- In celebration of Record Store Day (April 12, 2025), Philadelphia public radio station 88.5 WXPN — a nationally recognized leader in music discovery — will release Homegrown Originals Volume 3, a limited-edition vinyl album featuring exclusive live recordings by Philadelphia-area artists.

Pressed on stunning emerald green vinyl, only 500 copies have been produced and will be available exclusively. The tracks on Volume 3 were captured by WXPN at its signature live-music events, including Free At Noon, Key Studio Sessions, World Cafe, and the XPoNential Music Festival.

Following the enthusiastic response to Volumes 1 and 2, this year’s edition features standout performances from artists making national waves — like Mannequin Pussy and Dr. Dog— alongside beloved local favorites and rising voices in Philly’s dynamic music scene. This rare album is a gift with purchase at 12 local, independent record stores throughout WXPN’s broadcast area on Saturday, April 12.

To mark the occasion, WXPN will host Homegrown Live, a special free concert event featuring performances by dd Toby Leaman Trio, Eliza Hardy Jones, and Cadre Noir, on April 16 at The Lounge at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.

“The Philadelphia music scene gave us another incredible year of new music, and it’s been a thrill to document it at WXPN,” said John Vettese, WXPN on-air host and producer of The Local Show. “This compilation brings together the best of the best — a cross-section of genres and generations. It’s a snapshot of the sounds shaping Philly right now, and I can’t wait to drop the needle on it.”

It will be available at these participating record stores: Main Street Music (Philadelphia), Repo Records (Philadelphia, PA), Siren Records (Doylestown, PA), Newtown Book & Record Exchange (Newtown, PA), Forever Changes (Phoenixville, PA), Tunes (Voorhees Township, NJ), Compact Disc Center (Bethlehem, PA), Iko’s Music Trade (York, PA), A Day In The Life (Lancaster, PA), Sky Valley Records (Somerdale, NJ), Princeton Record Exchange (Princeton, NJ), and Greatest Hits (Media, PA).
