New Jersey Stage offers previews of concerts throughout the Garden State as well as select shows in New York City and Philadelphia areas. Click on the title to go to the full preview. Thursday, January 30 - Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music presents Second Annual President's Lecture on Music History and Contemporary America. (WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music (BSACAM) at Monmouth University presents the second annual President's Lecture on Music History and Contemporary America, to be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025 in the Pollak Theatre on the campus of Monmouth University. The event begins at 3:00pm.

Friday, January 31 - MPAC presents Grammy-winning Gospel Musical Group The Blind Boys of Alabama on Friday. (MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Six-time Grammy-winning gospel group The Blind Boys of Alabama, who state they are the longest running group in American music, will perform at Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC) on Friday, January 31, 2025. Jeiris Cook opens the night. Showtime is 8:00pm.

Friday, January 31 - State Theatre New Jersey presents An Evening with Sutton Foster. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents An Evening with Sutton Foster on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 8:00pm. The Tony® Award-winning artist will perform from her extensive Broadway catalog including, The Music Man, Anything Goes, and Sweeney Todd.

Tuesday, January 28 - Sons of Silver to open for Myles Kennedy at The Stone Pony. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Sons of Silver are heading out on a 21-city national tour with Myles Kennedy and Tim Montana. The tour comes to The Stone Pony in Asbury Park on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. Sons of Silver are touring in support of their debut full-length album, Runaway Emotions, set for release on January 10th.

Saturday, February 1 - Montclair State University's Cali Opera & Symphony Orchestra presents "Calisto". (MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Montclair State University's Cali Opera Program is set to present their mainstage opera "La Calisto"  by Francesco Cavalli February 1-2, 2025. This exquisite baroque opera is directed by Rebecca Jo Loeb and conducted by Kyle Ritenauer and wrapped in the beautiful choreography of Donna Scro Samori and the dancers of the Department of Theatre & Dance. Cavalli's poignant and ruckus opera begins in the heavens when we learn that a young, beautiful nymph, Calisto, has the chance to become immortalized as a constellation among the stars.

Saturday, February 1 - Stockton PAC presents Grammy-winning Gospel Musical Group The Blind Boys of Alabama. (GALLOWAY, NJ) -- Six-time Grammy-winning gospel group The Blind Boys of Alabama, who state they are the longest running group in American music, will perform at Stockton University's Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Showtime is 7:30pm.

Saturday, February 1 - Albert Music Hall presents a Bluegrass Show on Saturday. (WARETOWN, NJ) -- On Saturday, February 1, 2025, Albert Music Hall will hold the first of three Bluegrass Shows this year, featuring an exciting lineup of live bands - Crab Grass, followed by The Festers, Fish & Whistle, Mark Miklos, and Josh Werner. The Pickin' Shed will be open for jamming throughout the event, where guests are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in the music or simply listen in.

Sunday, February 2 - Celebrating Black History Month: Tribute to Saxophonist/Composer Gigi Gryce in Madison. (MADISON, NJ) -- Saxophonist Bruce Williams, who hails from Washington, D.C. and currently resides in Montclair, NJ, has made his presence known on the jazz scene by garnering critical attention with his own enthusiastically received CD releases, Brotherhood and Altoicity (Savant Records), and Private Thoughts (Passin' Thru Records).

PSO Soundtracks Talk: Amadeus and the Myth of Mozart  (PRINCETON, NJ) -- Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) continues its series of Soundtracks Talks at the Princeton Public Library with "Amadeus and the Myth of Mozart" on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 7:00pm in the library's Community Room. Chris Collier, Executive Director of the Princeton Garden Theatre, and Michael Pratt, Conductor of the Princeton University Orchestra, unravel the enduring legacy and myth of Mozart by watching and discussing excerpts of the 1984 Academy Award-winning movie Amadeus. Their conversation anticipates the Garden Theatre's showing of the restored theatrical cut of the film the following evening, Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 7:00pm.

NJPAC presents Patti Labelle on February 8th  (NEWARK, NJ) -- Get ready for the iconic Patti Labelle as she brings her 80/65 Tour to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 8:00pm. The legendary singer, author, and actress, who has won multiple Grammy Awards, is celebrating 65 years in show business at 80 years old.

Lizzie Rose Music Room presents The Rachel Z Trio featuring Omar Hakim on February 8th  (TUCKERTON, NJ) -- Lizzie Rose Music Room presents The Rachel Z Trio featuring Omar Hakim on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Rachel Z is a keyboardist with a long history of award-winning performances in the worlds of jazz and rock. Omar Hakim is widely known as a rock and pop, jazz and jazz fusion drummer / producer / composer and arranger. Doors are at 7:00pm, showtime is 7:30pm.

Brookdale Community College's Performing Arts Center presents 'A Night of Jazz Love Songs'  (LINCROFT, NJ) -- Step into a world of timeless romance and captivating melodies as Brookdale Community College's Performing Arts Center presents 'A Night of Jazz Love Songs,' performed by A Real Human Jazz Trio. Light Opera of New Jersey presents Madama Butterfly at the Sieminski Theater  (BASKING RIDGE, NJ) -- Light Opera of New Jersey presents Madama Butterfly at the Sieminski Theater February 8-9, 2025. One of the most beloved of all operas, Puccini's Madama Butterfly premiered in 1904 and has enthralled audiences ever since.

WBGO Presents All That Jazz at Hamilton Stage with Marion Meadows  (RAHWAY, NJ) -- The second leg of the WBGO All That Jazz series headlines Marion Meadows who celebrates his new album at the Hamilton Stage on February 8, 2025 with a matinee at 5:30pm and an evening performance at 8:00pm. The Hamilton Stage in a partnership with WBGO and Smooth Jazz New Jersey is fast becoming the go to venue for contemporary Jazz.

State Theatre New Jersey presents Celia Vive - A Musical Tribute to Celia Cruz  (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents Celia Vive - A Musical Tribute to Celia Cruz performed by Lucrecia on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 8:00pm. Kelsea Ballerini to Perform Shows in Philly and Newark  (NEWARK, NJ) -- After selling out her special PATTERNS release show at New York City's iconic Madison Square Garden in minutes, Kelsea Ballerini has turned her focus to a 2025 tour and taking her already captivating live show to another level. The four-time GRAMMY nominee and multiple Country Music Association Award winner has announced a 30-city, three-month arena tour that comes to Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on February 10, 2025 and Prudential Center in Newark on February 18, 2025.

McCarter Theatre presents Jazz Visionary Chief Adjuah (formerly Christian Scott)  (PRINCETON, NJ) -- Seven-time Grammy nominee Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah (formerly Christian Scott), a revolutionary force in jazz, will perform at McCarter Theatre Center on Thursday, February 13, 2025. A transformative artist in contemporary jazz, Chief Adjuah has been redefining the genre since 2002. He is known for his dynamic live performances that blend jazz, soul, funk, and African traditions, continuously pushing the boundaries of the genre. Showtime is 7:30pm.

Jazz Concert at Trenton City Museum will Feature the Joe Baione Vibraphone Experience

An Interview with Dan Kurtz of The New Deal

Formed in 1999, Toronto, Canada based trio The New Deal, is a pioneer in jam-based electronic music. The group was founded by remaining members Dan Kurtz (bass) and Jamie Shields (keys), along with Darren Shearer (drums) who left tND in 2011. Since its inception, tND has remained committed to its improvisational roots and has served as a model for other jamtronica bands bridging the gap between multiple music genres as well as the border between Canada and the United States.

Pianist Anthony Pocetti grew up in Hamilton, NJ, studying piano, "doing sort of traditional piano lessons. I have an uncle who was always encouraging me to get into the jazz thing. He gave me the (Miles Davis) Kind of Blue CD, and he knew that the jazz pianist Jim Ridl was living in Hamilton."
