Skye Consort and Emma Bjorling to Perform at Grunin Center on Friday

(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- The Grunin Center for the Arts presents a performance by Skye Consort and Emma Björling on Friday, September 27, 2024 on the Grunin Center's Main Stage. Tickets are $29. Showtime is 7:00pm.

Skye Consort and Emma Björling perform trans-Atlantic arrangements of songs and tunes from Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Scotland, England, Québec, Acadia and the USA as well as original compositions.

The group features Emma Björling, Alex Kehler, Amanda Keesmaat, and Seán Dagher.

Emma Björling (lead voice, shruti box, percussion), an award-winning Swedish singer, composer, and arranger active in the renowned Scandinavian bands Kongero and Lyy. Both bands have toured the world and are busy in the European folk-trad scene. Emma regularly teaches and conducts workshops all over the world.

Alex Kehler (fiddle, nyckelharpa, vocals) - Alex is a member of La Nef, Soulwood, Kehler Williams duo, Les Siffleurs de Nuits, and Triton in addition to his work with Skye Consort.

Amanda Keesmaat (cello, vocals) is principal cellist of Arion Baroque orchestra and has performed with Les Charbonniers de L’Enfer, OktoEcho, Jean-François Bélanger and Projet ClaireObscur.

Seán Dagher (cittern/bouzouki, banjo and vocals) is the artistic director of La Nef and an active performer, arranger, and composer of music from various folk and classical music traditions. He won the OPUS “Creation of the Year” award in 2014 for Sea Songs and has been nominated for numerous Adisq awards.

An Interview with Dan Kurtz of The New Deal

Formed in 1999, Toronto, Canada based trio The New Deal, is a pioneer in jam-based electronic music. The group was founded by remaining members Dan Kurtz (bass) and Jamie Shields (keys), along with Darren Shearer (drums) who left tND in 2011. Since its inception, tND has remained committed to its improvisational roots and has served as a model for other jamtronica bands bridging the gap between multiple music genres as well as the border between Canada and the United States.
