(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- Mile Square Theatre presents For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf from weekends from November 6-15, 2026. Written by Ntozake Shange, this groundbreaking “choreopoem” is a spellbinding collection of vivid prose and free verse narratives about and performed by Black women.
Ntozake Shange’s landmark choreopoem stands among the most transformative works in the American theatrical canon. 50 years after its 1976 Broadway premiere, this form-defying fusion of poetry, song, and movement has given voice to the interior lives of women of color with a force and beauty unmatched in our national theater.
Filled with passion, humor, and raw honesty, legendary playwright/poet Ntozake Shange’s form-changing choreopoem tells the stories of seven women of color using poetry, song, and movement. With unflinching honesty and emotion, each woman voices her survival story of having to exist in a world shaped by sexism and racism.
Directed by Daryl Stewart, Ntozake Shange’s groundbreaking, genre-defying work remains as powerful and vital today as when it debuted. The cast includes Brissae Valdes, Camille Upshaw, Cima, Lynn Irby Hill, Madison Star Brim, Positive, and Zaria Monae.
Performances take place Friday, November 6 at 7:00pm; Saturday, November 7 at 7:00pm; Sunday, November 8 at 2:00pm; Friday, November 13 at 7:00pm; Saturday, November 14 at 7:00pm; and Sunday, November 15 at 2:00pm.
