(DEAL PARK, NJ) -- Axelrod Performing Arts Center presents Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's beloved musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat from November 6–22, 2026. The irresistible family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel’s favorite son.
This legendary musical brings the biblical story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colors to life through unforgettable music, exhilarating dancing, colorful costumes and an uplifting story about believing in your dreams.
The show’s wonderfully diverse score moves from country western and ’50s doo-wop to island calypso and includes favorites such as “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door.”
Whether you have loved Joseph for years or are discovering it for the first time, this is a theatrical experience for every generation.
Tickets are available for purchase online. Axelrod Performing Arts Center is located at 100 Grant Avenue in Deal Park, New Jersey.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was first written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber at the request of a friend of Andrew’s father, Colet Court School choirmaster Alan Doggett, for the school’s 1968 end of term concert.
The children's concert proved so successful that the piece, originally 15 minutes long, continued to expand until it became a full-length professional musical. The first amateur production in America was in May 1970 at the College of the Immaculate Conception in Douglastown, New York.
Professionally, Joseph premiered at Scotland’s Edinburgh Festival in 1972, and transferred to the West End’s Albery Theatre the following year. The Broadway opening, with the late Laurie Beechman as the first female to take the Narrator role, was in 1982 and garnered six Tony nods, including Best Musical. The title role has been played by a succession of stars, including Gary Bond, Donny Osmond, Patrick Cassidy and Jason Donovan.
The Axelrod Performing Arts Center was named after Dr. Herbert and Evelyn Axelrod, long-time residents of Deal, NJ, and supporters of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Monmouth County (now the JCC Jersey Shore). APAC officially opened its doors in 2005.
A multi-disciplinary arts organization, APAC was incorporated as a non-profits arts organization in 2010. In 2017, the Axelrod Performing Art Center showcased over 300 artists on its stage, reaching in excess of 20,000 patrons. In 2015, after multiple nominations from the New Jersey Association of Community Theaters, APAC received its highest award (Best Production of a Musical). A recipient of a three-year grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, APAC continues to be one of the state’s most diverse presenters and producers of cultural programs as well as one of the New Jersey’s up-and-coming professional regional theaters.
