(AVENEL, NJ) -- Retirement was supposed to bring JT Tyler some peace. Instead, the retired fire captain discovers that after 40 years of putting out fires for everyone else, the biggest fire he may ever face is burning right inside his own home.
People Helping People, Arts & Entertainment presents It’s a Family Affair, a new stage comedy written and directed by Andrea Clinton, on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Avenel Performing Arts Center. Two performances are scheduled for 3:00pm and 7:00pm.
JT is just one day into retirement when his plans for a quieter life begin to unravel. His wife is acting strangely and eating weed brownies, his adult children have turned their home into a three-ring circus, and somehow, the only normal person seems to be his hillbilly neighbor brewing moonshine in her yard.
Everybody has a problem. Everybody has an opinion. And for a man who spent his career fighting fires, you'd think JT would recognize everyone in his family holding a match.
What follows is a fast-moving comedy that explores the unintended consequences of working parents raising latchkey children, and the overlooked shenanigans that come home to roost when those children become young adults.
Tickets are: $30 Early Bird Admission (through October 17) | $50 VIP Admission (including a complimentary original painting) Tickets are available for purchase online. Avenel Performing Arts Center is located at 150 Avenel Street in Avenel, New Jersey.
The cast includes Andre Minkins (JT), Donna Glaesener (Meema), Jean Charles (Jon J), Kayann Richards (Connie), Byron Brown (Shnuka), and Keora Barkley (Sista).
The production team includes Andrea Clinton (Writer, Director, Producer), Kelela Blake (Stage Manager), and Alex Poage (Assistant Producer/Assistant Stage Manager).
The production is presented by People Helping People, Arts & Entertainment (PHP A&E), a New Jersey-based nonprofit arts organization committed to producing quality entertainment while creating opportunities for artists, technicians, and emerging entertainment professionals through mentorship and on-the-job training.
