(ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ) -- First Avenue Playhouse presents Thornton Wilder's Our Town, weekends from October 9-24, 2026. Described by Edward Albee as "the greatest American play ever written," Our Town presents the small town of Grover's Corners in three acts: "Daily Life," "Love and Marriage" and "Death and Eternity."
A beloved American classic, Our Town, is humorous, poignant, and profound. It examines the day to day life of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire at the turn of the 20th century. The play shows the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families. The play shines a light on our human journey, through our daily life, love, marriage, family, joy and pain.
Directed by Sharon Coyle, the cast includes Damien S Berger, Vince Eaton, Lance Hilfman, Alix Knice, Dawn Lanoue, Frank Leonhardt, Toni Lewis, Eric Parsler, Arthur G Pugh, Peter Reimann, Daylyn Renee, Asaph Rivera, Ruth Rocky, Bellamy Shivers, Frances Veil, and Antje Weymann.
Performances take place Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm and Sunday Matinees on October 11th & 18th at 2:30pm. The theater is located at 123 First Avenue in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey.
Our Town opened on Broadway at Henry Miller's Theatre on February 4, 1938, produced and directed by Jed Harris. The original cast featured Frank Craven, Martha Scott and John Craven. The play returned to Broadway four times: in 1944 starring Marc Connelly; in 1969 starring Henry Fonda; in 1988 starring Spalding Gray; and in 2002 starring Paul Newman.
