Princeton-based The Beagles with Joy will celebrate the release of their latest album, “Listen for a Moment,” with a hometown hoedown at 2 p.m. on Aug. 30 at Hinds Plaza, 55 Witherspoon St.
The title track, the second of the album’s three singles, is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.
As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Listen For A Moment“ also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on Aug. 28 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com. If you miss it, you can tune in any time in the archives at The Penguin, Mixcloud and RadioJersey.
“Listen for a Moment” is the veteran band’s first single that features founding guitarist Rob Freeman on lead vocals. His driving delivery meets the desperation of abandonment with a swagger of faith that a lost love will return.
Rob is one of the main Beagles songwriters along with lead vocalist GF Joy Okoye, who raises the temperature with an emotive wordless vox that channels Ronnie Spector, kicking off the tune and punctuating the breaks. Twelve-string lead licks, Farfisa-driven choruses and surf-rock bass & drums add to the urgency that gets folks moving to this local hit.
The Beagles also are drummer David Ross, keyboardist Jay Posipanko, 12-string guitar John Mazzeo, and bassists Christopher Clark and Da Nickster.
The album was recorded at Rock Run Recording, Yardley, PA. Rob co-produced with engineer Peter Gregory. Max Labrun mastered.
Other singles from the album are “Anew” and the recently released “Mountain Walk.”
The release party will give a souvenir gift to the first 50 attendees. Rain location is Princeton Public Library, 55 Witherspoon St.
