(BLOOMFIELD, NJ) -- Skyline Theatre Company presents The Guys by Anne Nelson at the Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center from September 11-12, 2026. As we honor the 25th anniversary of 9/11, The Guys is a poignant, true-story-inspired drama.
Less than two weeks after the September 11th attacks, New Yorkers are still in shock. One of them, an editor named Joan, receives an unexpected phone call on behalf of Nick, a fire captain who has lost most of his men in the attack. He’s looking for a writer to help him with the eulogies he must present at their memorial services. Nick and Joan spend a long afternoon together, recalling the fallen men through recounting their virtues and their foibles, and fashioning the stories into memorials of words. In the process, Nick and Joan discover the possibilities of friendship in each other and their shared love for the unconquerable spirit of the city.
As they make their way through the emotional landscape of grief, they draw on humor, tango, the appreciation of craft in all its forms – and the enduring bonds of common humanity.
This intimate and moving production stars NY actors Marie Lemon as the writer Joan and J. Harris Tooley (seen above) as the fire company captain Nick. The production is directed by Skyline Associate Artistic Director David C. Neal. Abba Wilson is Production Stage Manager and April Gerbode is Costume Coordinator.

Neal says “On this 25th anniversary of the horrible events and immediate aftermath of 9/11, 'The Guys' beautifully reminds us all that life is precious and short no matter how much time we have on this earth. And while we cannot choose how much time we get, we can always choose the legacy we leave behind.”
Performances take place Friday, September 11 at 7:00pm and Saturday, September 12 at 2:00pm & 7:00pm. Tickets are available for purchase online. The venue is located at 240 Belleville Avenue in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
