(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- This August, The ShowRoom welcomes audiences back to its annual Summer Camp series, a celebration of cinema at its most gloriously excessive. Featuring larger-than-life performances, outrageous style, melodrama, and unapologetic bad taste, this four-film lineup showcases the movies that have earned devoted followings through their fearless embrace of the theatrical, the flamboyant, and the fabulously over-the-top.
The series opens on Saturday, August 8 at 8:00pm with Auntie Mame (1958). Rosalind Russell delivers one of the most exuberant performances ever committed to film as the irrepressible Mame Dennis, whose extravagant lifestyle, razor-sharp wit, and theatrical flair transform this beloved comedy into a dazzling celebration of living life as boldly as possible. The cast also includes Coral Browne, Forrest Tucker, Jan Handzlik, and Peggy Cass.
On Saturday, August 15 at 8:00pm, Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) brings high fashion, murder, and pure cinematic excess to the screen. Faye Dunaway commands every frame with a deliciously over-the-top performance, chewing scenery in spectacular fashion through this stylish thriller where glamour and suspense collide. The cast also includes Brad Dourif, Raúl Juliá, René Auberjonois, and Tommy Lee Jones.
John Waters' suburban masterpiece Polyester (1981) screens on Saturday, August 22 at 10:00pm. Starring the incomparable Divine, this gleefully trashy satire skewers middle-class respectability with outrageous humor, melodrama, and enough delicious bad taste to make it one of camp cinema's crowning achievements. The cast also includes David Samson, Edith Massey, Mary Garlington, and Tab Hunter.
The series concludes with Waters' legendary Pink Flamingos (1972) on Saturday, August 29 at 10:00pm. Equal parts shocking, hilarious, and defiantly transgressive, Divine's quest to retain the title of "Filthiest Person Alive" remains one of the most notorious midnight movie experiences ever put on screen. The cast also includes Danny Mills, David Lochary, Mary Vivian Pearce, and Mink Stole.
