(MANASQUAN, NJ) -- Algonquin Arts Theatre presents Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical across two weekends from August 8-16, 2026. Bold, revolutionary, and electrifying, Hair captures the spirit of a generation and stands as the ultimate celebration of the 1960s.
Featuring an iconic rock score and powerful themes of love, freedom, and protest, this groundbreaking musical remains as vibrant and relevant as ever. The musical features Book and Lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and Music by Galt MacDermot.
The American tribal love rock musical Hair celebrates the sixties counterculture in all its barefoot, long-haired, bell-bottomed, beaded and fringed glory. To an infectiously energetic rock beat, the show wows audiences with songs like “Aquarius,” “Good Morning, Starshine,” “Hair,” “I Got Life” and “Let The Sunshine In.”
Exploring ideas of identity, community, global responsibility and peace, Hair remains relevant as ever as it examines what it means to be a young person in a changing world. HAIR is a perfect time capsule that resonates today.
Performances take place Saturday, August 8 at 2:00pm & 8:00pm; Sunday, August 9 at 3:00pm; Friday, August 14 at 8:00pm; Saturday, August 15 at 2:00pm & 8:00pm; and Sunday, August 16 at 3:00pm. The theater is located at 60 Abe Voorhees Drive in Manasquan, New Jersey.

Hair debuted off-Broadway at Joseph Papp's Public Theater on October 17, 1967. The show was an instant sensation, moving to a second venue and playing 144 performances. On April 29, 1968, HAIR opened on Broadway at the Biltmore Theatre, starring James Rado, Gerome Ragni, Lynn Kellogg and Melba Moore. Breaking all theatre conventions, the show made national headlines and played for 1,750 performances. The show returned to Broadway in 1977 and in 2009, starring Gavin Creel, Will Swenson, Caissie Levy and Sasha Allen.
