Kim Jae-Kwon(father), "Signal Abstract", 2025, Mixed media, (12.7 x 10.2 in)
(TENAFLY, NJ) -- ACC Gallery presents Meet Under the Sun: A Dialogue from Afar - A Duo Exhibition by Artist Kim Jae-Kwon and Picture Book Author Gajikkot on display from July 6-25, 2026. This is a Dialogue Across Disparate Times and Spaces — Father and daughter bound by a shared creative DNA.
While opposite sides of the Earth experience alternating cycles of day and night, from a cosmic perspective, day and night perpetually coexist as light and shadow. Residing in South Korea, established artist Kim Jae-Kwon, and residing in the United States, picture book author Gajikkot, have each followed their own artistic trajectories within disparate times and spaces; yet, they are a father and daughter intimately linked through a shared creative DNA. Transcending physical distance, the dialogue they have quietly shared through artistic inspiration and emotional resonance now finally converges within a single space through this exhibition.
Kim Jae-Kwon earned his Ph.D. from the University of Paris-VIII in France. Absorbing the philosophical thoughts of Gilles Deleuze during his time there, he has spent decades developing his own highly original framework known as the "Hybridismic Signal System." Grounded in this system, he derives visual expressions of the universe, nature, humans, life, objects, and shapes, while embodying his profound artistic worldview on the canvas.

The drawings featured in this exhibition similarly convey a vital, dynamic energy through the signalized formative language that permeates his entire body of work, offering a profound sense of liberation rooted in primal innocence and free expression.
Picture book author and illustrator Gajikkot(Brinjal Flower) majored in Early Childhood Education at Ewha Womans University and earned her master's and doctoral degrees in Child and Family Studies from Yonsei University. In 2020, she began to bring her lifelong dream of becoming a picture book artist to life. Her self-authored and illustrated works include The Snowflake, What I Mean Is..., Little Voice, We Are All Flowers, and A Gift Made of Korean Words.
