(CALIFON, NJ) -- Robin Love's ABSENCE OF GRAVITY opens at Gryphon Gallery on May 30 and runs through September 27, 2026.

Born 1961 in NJ, Robin began her creative practice as a photographer, receiving a BFA from School of Visual Arts in NYC. Her photographs have been exhibited in solo and group shows in and around the city and included in the permanent collection of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

ABSENCE OF GRAVITY marks the first solo exhibition of the artist’s oil paintings, the latest in a series of works begun in 2016 after the death of her constant in life, love, art and design, David Derrick. The two founded their eponymous, multi-disciplined design studio in NYC in 1985, later moving their residence to rural Tewksbury NJ. Robin closed the New York design office in 2021 to paint full time. She currently maintains a private studio in nearby Pottersville.

Robin’s paintings depict improbable color saturated skies. Cloud filled works alternate with ethereal light fogs, mirroring the perpetual flux between emotion and experience. Defying gravity, pigments transform into distant space, elevating beauty over loss.

The show features 22 small format oil on paper paintings created in the past year. Half were made last September in Orquevaux, France during a 2 week residency at a picturesque chateau estate in the remote French countryside. Included are several larger oil on paper works created post Orquevaux in Pottersville - using the same materials, French paints (Sennelier) on French paper (Arches Huile).

Also on display and available for purchase at the gallery are 3 individual print editions using a 10 color ink system on premium matte paper. Each has a limited run of 20, plus 2 artist proofs. A small selection of oil paintings on linen are included in the exhibition to allow a view into the artist’s wider practice.

Robin Love’s ABSENCE OF GRAVITY is the inaugural exhibition by the gallery under its new name. Gryphon Gallery, formerly known as The Gallery at Bex, is run by noted artist/chef Becky Geisel - the creative force behind Bex Kitchen. Established in 2023, the gallery provides local artists opportunity to advance their work to a broader audience.

Gryphon Gallery is located at 56 Main Street in Califon, New Jersey. Gallery hours are (most) weekends from 11:00am to 2:00pm or by scheduled appointment, (908) 975-3334. A reception for the artist will be held Thursday, June 4th between 6:00pm – 8:00pm. All are welcome.
