(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Holocaust survivor, educator, and New Jersey resident Maud Dahme returns to the Ocean County College campus on Thursday, April 9, 2026 to share her story of being hidden by Christian families as a child in The Netherlands during World War II. This event is open to the public and admission is free.
Members of the community are invited to join them at 9:30am in the Gateway Building Auditorium (Building 101, Room 104) for this moving presentation entitled "A Survivor's Journey."
As a six-year-old child living in the Netherlands in 1942, Maud and her four-year-old sister were sent into hiding to avoid the Nazis. The girls survived and were reunited with their parents after the war. Maud’s personal experiences were chronicled in her book, Chocolate, the Taste of Freedom: The Holocaust Memoir of a Hidden Dutch Child.
Maud Dahme was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame's Class of 2014 as an Unsung Hero. She dedicated much of her adult life to education and specifically Holocaust education for both teachers and students in New Jersey.
