(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Great Music on the Morristown Green is pleased to be collaborating with Music at St. Peter's to present Maurice Duruflé's transcendent Requiem (Opus 9) on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in the glorious acoustics of St. Peter's Episcopal Church (121 South Street) in Morristown. Showtime is 5:00pm.
The concert will feature the combined choirs of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and Morristown United Methodist Church, led by John Liepold (conductor) and Anthony Hammond (organ).
Completed in 1947 and based on Gregorian chant, the Duruflé Requiem is a transformative, meditative musical experience. A poignant reflection on life, it is among the sacred works that best convey the comforting notion of a better world beyond. From the ethereal ‘Pie Jesu’ to the transcendent ‘In Paradisum’, echoes of Gregorian chant are blended with scintillating impressionist colors and harmonic textures to create a magnum opus of pure peace and reflection.
The choir is at the heart of the performance: sometimes singing in perfect unison, with warm and blended voices; sometimes dividing into gentle, illuminating harmonies. The organ breathes with the choir, amplifying the chant-derived melodies, as the soloists come forth brilliantly from the choral texture.
Immerse yourself in a musical experience that soothes and elevates the soul. Duruflé’s iconic Requiem transports you to a world of serenity through its lush harmonies, flowing melodies, and an enduring sense of tranquility.
The March 29th concert is free and open to the public. St. Peter’s Church is handicap accessible.
