(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- A new theater company – Square Ducks Productions – which specializes in shows for the special-needs community, will present its first production, Muse, at Mile Square Theatre across two weekends from March 20–29, 2026. Muse is an immersive theatrical experience inspired by the myth of Persephone.
In this imaginative story, Mother Nature has created a beautiful garden world, but her daughter, Gwyn, longs for the freedom to explore beyond its borders. When Gwyn disappears from the garden, Mother Nature sends our audience, along with three minor gods, on a magical quest to find her and bring her home. Throughout the show, the audience and cast will sing, dance, discover treasures, battle monsters, and help lead their players to a happy ending!
Performances take place Fridays at 7:00pm; Saturdays at 11:00am & 2:00pm; and Sundays at 2:00pm. Family Tickets (1 neurodivergent guest + 1–3 caregivers/family members): $25; Observer Tickets: $20. Tickets are available for purchase online. This show is best suited for ages 5-12, but all ages are welcome. Mile Square Theatre is located at 1400 Clinton Street in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Square Ducks creates sensory-inclusive theatrical experiences designed specifically for the neurodivergent.
“People of all ages with developmental disabilities deserve soul-nourishing theater where they can be their true selves without having to fit neatly into preconceived notions of how theater should be enjoyed,” says Hannah Jane Ginsberg, Founder and Artistic Director of Square Ducks Productions.
The main obstacle to enjoying theater for many neurodivergent (and many neurotypical) people is the inability to sit quietly in one place for an extended period of time. Square Ducks reimagines the theater experience where the audience freely commingles on-stage with the performers.
Audience members onstage are supported by trained guides — part performer, part caretaker — who help them safely navigate the space and interact with the show. Performances are intentionally kept small, with audiences of about 15–20 participants, ensuring that each audience member’s individual needs and interests are met by our multi-talented cast. Those who prefer a more traditional experience are welcome to stay in their seats to enjoy the show.
