(BASKING RIDGE, NJ) -- Trilogy Repertory presents The Secret Garden across two weekends from March 13-22, 2026 at the Sieminski Theater. This enchanting classic of children's literature is reimagined in brilliant musical style by composer Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of 'Night Mother.
Orphaned in India, 11-year-old Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his disabled son Colin. The estate’s many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the “Dreamers,” spirits from Mary’s past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing The Secret Garden‘s compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.
The production is Directed by Angela Rose Masi; Produced by Beth Berger; Musical Direction by John Birckhead; and Choreography by Shrooti Singh Nagal and Isabelle Borte.
The Secret Garden features Book and Lyrics by Marsha Norman; Music by Lucy Simon; and is Based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
Performances take place Friday, March 13 at 7:30pm; Saturday, March 14 at 2:30pm; Sunday, March 15 at 2:30pm; Friday, March 20 at 7:30pm; Saturday, March 21 at 2:30pm; and Sunday, March 22 at 2:30pm. Tickets are available for purchase online. The Sieminski Theater is located at 8000 Fellowship Road in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The Secret Garden opened on Broadway at the St. James Theatre on April 25, 1991. Directed by Susan H. Schulman, the production featured Daisy Eagan, Alison Fraser, Rebecca Luker, John Cameron Mitchell, Mandy Patinkin and Robert Westenberg. The musical played for a total of 709 performances, closing on January 3, 1993. It won three 1991 Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical, and three 1991 Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Book and Orchestrations.
Each year, Trilogy Repertory endeavors to present shows in the Spring and Fall at Sieminski Theater, as well as traveling children’s participation theater performed in local libraries. Each summer, two shows are produced at the Pleasant Valley Park amphitheater. Historical programs are presented to students and community at the Boudinot-Southard-Ross property. Fourth grade students visit the site as part of their history curriculum. Trilogy performs historical plays chronicling the life of Elias Boudinot, who developed the property in the 1760s. These events are presented free of charge.
Trilogy also offers educational outreach programs including teen cabaret (performing opportunities to future stars). Trilogy conducts theater and costume workshops at museums and local schools. Costumes and props from their collection have been made available to countless schools and organizations, enhancing the production value of their shows.
