(LOS ANGELES, CA) -- Singer/songwriter Peter Case, a musical icon for nearly five decades, returns with a powerful new live album, My Life To Live: Peter Case At McCabe's that reasserts his status as one of America's most respected and quietly influential troubadours. Recorded at the legendary McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, California, the album captures Case in his most elemental form: alone with his songs and guitar, his singular music informed by decades of hard-fought experience. Sunset Blvd. Records will release the album digitally and on CD and vinyl format on April 24, 2026.
The Buffalo, New York native’s career traces a fascinating path through American rock, folk, and roots music. After honing his craft as a San Francisco street musician, Peter emerged as front man for The Nerves, who quickly developed into a prominent force on the Los Angeles rock scene. They helped shape the riveting sound of power pop with their enduring 1976 anthem “Hanging on the Telephone,” a song later recorded by Blondie.
On New Year’s Day of 1979, Case debuted his new band, The Plimsouls. They achieved mainstream success in 1983 with the hit single “A Million Miles Away,” a national college radio smash that would become emblematic of West Coast rock’s yearning romanticism. Since launching his solo career in 1986 with an eponymous album on Geffen Records that earned a five-star review in Rolling Stone, Case has garnered widespread acclaim for his literate songwriting, soulful performances, and deep engagement with American musical traditions. He’s racked up three Grammy nominations in all (two for his own recordings, the other as producer of the 2001 anthology album Avalon Blues: A Tribute to the Music of Mississippi John Hurt, nominated for Best Folk Album) and multiple honors along the way.
My Life To Live: Peter Case At McCabe's showcases Case revisiting some of his most essential compositions, rendered with intimacy, grit, and emotional clarity. Standout performances include “A Million Miles Away,” reimagined with the hard-earned wisdom of time; the defiant and hopeful “Ain’t Gonna Worry No More”; and a selection of songs that span his rich solo catalog, each delivered with the conviction of an artist still fully engaged with his craft. The live setting allows the narratives at the heart of Case’s songwriting—stories of survival, faith, doubt, and perseverance—to resonate with renewed power.
Recorded in a venue long associated with master songwriters and historic performances, My Life To Live: Peter Case At McCabe’s is much more than a concert album—it’s a document of an artist’s captivating life in song. For longtime fans and new listeners alike, the record reaffirms Peter Case’s place as a vital voice in American music. He’s still searching, still telling the truth, and still living the life he sings so persuasively about.
