(HOWELL, NJ) -- Howell Middle School South Players presents Disney's The Lion King JR. from March 20-21, 2026 at the high school. Based on the landmark Broadway musical directed by Julie Taymor and Disney's beloved animated classic, this abridged version captures the heart, spirit, and spectacle of the world’s most successful stage show.

The full Broadway production of The Lion King has been enchanting audiences for more than 27 years, earning six Tony Awards® including Best Musical and inspiring generations with its stunning visual artistry, groundbreaking puppetry, and powerful music by Elton John and Tim Rice. The Lion King JR. brings that same magic to the stage in a version specially adapted for young performers, offering audiences of all ages a chance to experience the circle of life through the talents of the Howell Middle School South Players.

The production features a talented cast and crew of nearly 80 student performers, designers, and technicians under the direction of Howell Middle School South teachers Cindy Lutz, Steve Esche, and Michael Moorman.

The story follows the journey of Simba, portrayed by 8th grader Joseph Serzan, a curious lion cub destined to be king. Guided by his wise father Mufasa, played by 8th grader Nicholas Mederios, Simba faces life’s greatest lessons as he grows into adulthood. Along the way, he meets unforgettable friends and foes—from the spirited Nala, played by 6th grader Vivianne Jarmon, and the comic duo Timon, played by 7th grader Gabriella Palma, and Pumbaa, played by 6th grader Joseph Truso, to his cunning uncle, Scar, brought to life by 8th grader Jameson Green. When the time comes to reclaim his place on Pride Rock, adult Simba, portrayed by 8th grader Ryan Ventimiglia, finds the courage to confront his past, joined by adult Nala, played by 7th grader London Fernandez, and the wise Rafiki, portrayed by 7th grader Samantha Delaney, who reminds him that love and friendship are the true keys to the circle of life.

Audiences will be uplifted by favorite songs from the classic Disney film, including “Hakuna Matata,” “He Lives in You, “and the Academy Award®-winning “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” along with unforgettable music from the Broadway adaptation.
