(OGDENSBURG, NJ) -- North Star Theater Company will hold auditions for its upcoming production of The 39 Steps on Friday, February 6 from 6:30pm–9:30pm and Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 1:00pm–5:00pm at the NSTC Studio (21 Kennedy Avenue) in Ogdensburg, New Jersey.
The 39 Steps is a fast-paced, Hitchcock-inspired comedy, written by Patrick Barlow and adapted by John Buchan. The production will be directed by Bert Piper.
Mixing suspense, slapstick, and inventive theatricality, The 39 Steps features a small cast portraying dozens of characters in a wildly imaginative take on the classic spy thriller. Performers should be comfortable with physical comedy, quick character changes, and ensemble storytelling.
Please bring a comedic monologue, up to two minutes in length, and prepare a joke to share.

Rehearsals will be held on Friday evenings from 6:30pm to 9:30pm and on Saturday afternoons from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Tech week will start Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The production will run from April 30 to May 3, 2026.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Richard Hannay: is the hapless hero of the play. An ordinary man who has led a pretty hum-drum existence, finds himself fleeing from the wrongful accusation of murder through a series of improbable adventures as he is pursued by the authorities. Large amounts of physical comedy. (Canadian/North American Accent)
Annabella Schmidt/Margaret/ Pamela (One person portraying three roles). Annabella Schmidt: The exotic secret agent who sends Hannay on his journey and on the run from spies. (German accent). Margaret: A small town farmer’s wife who dreams of adventure beyond her everyday life. Shy, innocent, and kind. (Scottish accent). Pamela: The leading lady to the end of the story. Witty, classy, and bold. (Standard British accent)
Two Clown Roles: Multiple characters will be split up. They must have a wide range of character acting and accent work. Can be played by either gender.
Act 1: Two Gangsters, Milkman, Salesman 1/Paperboy/Mrs. Higgins, Salesman 2/Policeman/Porter, Policeman 1, Policeman 2, Pilot 1, Pilot 2, Mrs. Jordan, and more!
Act 2: Sheriff, Dunwoody, McQuarrie, Heavy 1, Heavy 2, Mr. McGarricle, Mrs. McGarricle, and more!
