Harmonium Choral Society presents "Season of Blessings"

originally published: 11/03/2025

(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Harmonium Choral Society invites you to experience Season of Blessings on Saturday, December 13 at 7:30pm and Sunday December 14, 2025 at 3:00pm at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown. The performances offer an immersive musical journey highlighting the blessings in our lives.

At the heart of the concert is the East Coast premiere of Prayer to the Shechinah by Andrea Clearfield, exploring the intersection of faith and femininity. Also included are Václav Nelhýbel's rousing Estampie Natalis, based on a 13th-century dance, and works by Palestrina, Bach, Nunes Garcia, Carol Barnett, Alice Parker and more, culminating in Craig Courtney's hilarious Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas.  Season of Blessings features instrumentalists Kris Lamb, flute and piccolo; Michael Holak, cello; Kimberly Love, viola; John Leister, percussion; and John Girvin, piano and organ.

"This program was inspired by a contemporary piece by Peter de Mets which tells us to look for blessings all around us—a sentiment which I felt could be very helpful to all in these stressful times," says Artistic Director Dr. Anne Matlack. "It showcases the fantastic voices of our 100 + singers, and some of our favorite instrumentalists. I strive for a diversity of composers to represent the rich landscape of choral music. Don't be late if you want to experience our surround-the-audience piece, it comes first!"

Harmonium's Season of Blessings concert of great choral music invites the listener to pause and reflect, find resilience in communal purpose, and reframe hardship through a lens of gratitude.

Advance tickets are discounted at $30 regular and $25 for teachers and are available for purchase online. The advance sales end at 11:59pm on Friday, December 12.  After that, tickets can be purchased at the door for $40 regular, $35 for teachers and $5.00 for students via cash, card, or check. The Presbyterian Church is located at 57 E Park Place in Morristown, New Jersey.

The new Student ticket price is $5.00 and children under 12 are admitted free of charge. They do, however, record all of their concerts and depend on a quiet audience for high quality audio, so they respectfully ask for you to not bring babies or toddlers.

Doors open one-half hour before the concert begins, but concertgoers are advised to leave plenty of time for parking in Morristown. There is limited accessible parking in the rear of the Presbyterian Church, which must be reserved by emailing [email protected] or calling (973) 538-6969.  Please bring your accessible placard to display.  For entry into the church, there is a ramp at the rear of the building with no stairs, and the front entry has (4) stairs with low lighting in the evening.  Headquarters Plaza's underground parking is the closest parking garage to the church. More parking information may be found at https://mpanj.org.

Please take note that each concert is professionally taped live audio reproduction; therefore, they do not allow audience recording via cell phones, and they do not allow pets (other than service dogs) to their performances. If you want to attend a concert with your service dog, please call them in advance.

Harmonium Choral Society is dedicated to ensuring that all of their patrons are able to enjoy the arts equally. If you need a large print program or have accessibility needs, questions, or concerns, please contact them at least two weeks prior to the performance, and they will assist you in the best manner they have available. They are always looking to make your experience better, and welcome your input.

Harmonium Choral Society is a participating arts organization that offers free tickets through the Families First Discovery Program.

Directed by Dr. Anne J. Matlack since 1987, Harmonium Choral Society is one of New Jersey's leading choral arts organizations.
