WBGO "All That Jazz" concert series presents Alex Bugnon at Morris Museum

originally published: 10/29/2025

(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- WBGO "All That Jazz" concert series announces the second leg of the three-part Morris Museum series. In addition to shows in Union County, Smooth Jazz New Jersey, WBGO, and the Morris Museum presents an acoustic and electric performance by the internationally renowned keyboardist Alex Bugnon with his explosive quartet on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 7:30pm.

Alex Bugnon has been a prolific, energetic force on the contemporary music scene for almost three decades. A renowned musician, composer and bandleader, Bugnon hails from the picturesque town of Caux, Switzerland – 4 miles above Montreux, site of the world-famous Jazz Festival. No doubt, the annual convergence in his hometown and in his own home, of some of music’s most illustrious names played a role in his decision to pursue a musical career, as did his early friendship with Herbie Hancock. The fact that his uncle was the legendary Donald Byrd only served to further his decision.

As the new millennium began, Alex was also beginning anew. Signed to the Narada/EMI label, He produced the first of four albums for the label; As Promised (2000) followed by Soul Purpose (2001), Southern Living (2003) and Free (2005). His next 3 CD’s were released under his own label, Xela Records, and another, The Best Of, released under Michael Cuscuna’s Mosaic label.

Assigned seating tickets are $63 ($58 for Members) and are available for purchase online. The Morris Museum is located at 6 Normandy Heights Road in Morristown, New Jersey.

The series will take place in the Bickford Theater. This is a comfortable 300 seat state-of-the-art venue housed in the Morris Museum. Plentiful onsite free parking. Go to www.smoothjazznj.com for a complete list of events, bios, and information.

Over almost 3 decades, Alex Bugnon has built a strong and loyal fan base across the country and around the world. His tour schedule has never eased, even besting the great Dizzy Gillespie’s record of appearances at Washington, D.C.’s Blues Alley. Last year marked Alex’s 20th consecutive year’s appearance at the legendary venue!

Bugnon makes it a point of never missing a day of piano practice or of writing. If he is not composing, he is listening to his favorite artists and biggest influences: Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Red Garland, Ahmad Jamal, Kenny Kirkland, Mulgrew Miller, Wynton Kelly, Joe Sample, George Duke and Keith Jarrett.

Alex makes his home in the historic village of Harlem, New York, and maintains his connection to his beloved Montreux.

WBGO is the global leader in jazz radio, broadcasting from the jazz capital of the world. Founded in 1979, WBGO is a publicly-supported cultural institution that preserves and elevates America’s music: jazz and blues. WBGO reaches a weekly audience of close to 300,000 in the New York/New Jersey metro area via 88.3FM. Through programs such as Jazz Night in America, produced in partnership with NPR and Jazz at Lincoln Center, and WBGO's position as content provider to NPR, its reach extends to millions more across the country. From its home base of Newark, New Jersey, Public Radio station WBGO has long been an anchor institution in community engagement through its partnerships, concerts, education and news programming.

With too few venues in New Jersey offering live nationally recognized Smooth Jazz and R&B artists, the creation of Smooth Jazz New Jersey now exists. The mission is to bring live nationally recognized contemporary Jazz and R&B music to venues in New Jersey.

The Morris Museum creates opportunities for lifelong learning, discovery, and creativity, driven by the contemporary interpretation of its Guinness Collection of Mechanical Musical Instruments and Automata as well as its general collections. The performing arts add further unique perspectives and dimensions of interpretation.
