(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Alfa Art Gallery presents Between Stillness and Surge from November 4, 2025 through January 10, 2026. This is a dynamic selection of watercolor and mixed media works that explores the shifting boundaries between serenity and momentum in an observation of life, landscapes, and the human condition. Featuring a spectrum of artistic voices, the show moves fluidly between abstraction and naturalism, revealing the expressive versatility of watercolor in its many forms.

From atmospheric monochromes to airy pastels and richly detailed natural scenes, a shared sensitivity to the medium’s fluid nature, where translucency and opacity converge to create moments of both subtlety and impact, unites these works. These diverse approaches form a visual dialogue in which color, texture, and form chart the balance between stillness and movement, with each artist contributing to a collective narrative that — while deeply personal — offers universal perspectives and invites viewers to immerse themselves in shifting moods, fleeting landscapes, and the interplay of control and spontaneity.

Featured artists include: Alaiyo Bradshaw, Andrew Chaflen, Aprajita Lal, Debra Bernath, Gail Wood Miller, Indrani Choudhury, J. Jie Li, Jill Hellman, Joel Popadics, Judy Levy, Kathleen Wert, and Lynnette Shelley.

An In-Person Opening Reception will take place Friday, November 14, 2025 from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.  A Virtual Opening Reception will take place Friday, November 21, 2025 at 6:30pm.

Join them in a fantastical display of watercolor and mixed media, once assumed to be kitsch, explored by numerous artists demonstrating the untapped potential of both mediums. From the abstract to photorealistic, you will be immersed into a thalassic world of visual arts!
