(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- The Center for Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education at Ocean County College will present two upcoming lectures by OCC professor and Center Director Dr. Ali Botein-Furrevig on the College's main campus in Toms River. Both events are free and open to the public; registration is not required.

Stars, Stripes, and Spies: Double Lives of Hollywood Legends During the Holocaust takes place on Thursday, October 16 from 12:30pm-1:45pm in the Tech Lecture Hall (Building 25, Rm. 115).

The Golden Age of Hollywood produced many of the greatest icons on stage and film. Along with other themes, movies centered on romance and espionage. But what most people do not know is that many of these patriotic celebrities used their status, access, and charm  in real life to voluntarily engage in dangerous counterintelligence, resistance movements, and other activities to fight the Nazi menace and help the war effort.

Remembering Kristallnacht and its Relevance Today will take place on Monday, November 10 from 11:00am to 12:15pm in the Tech Lecture Hall (Building 25, Rm. 115).

On November 9 and 10, 1938, Nazi leaders unleashed large scale violence against the Jewish population in Germany, Austria, and parts of Czechoslovakia. This tragic event came to be called Kristallnacht (The Night of Broken Glass) because of the shattered glass that littered the streets after the vandalism and destruction of Jewish-owned businesses, synagogues, and homes. But it was more than broken glass; it was the spark that ignited the Holocaust. Join us for a riveting lecture with survivor testimonies.
