
(LONG BEACH ISLAND, NJ) -- Surflight Theatre is pleased to present the Starlight Performing Arts production of the hilarious and heartwarming musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Performed by Starlight Performing Arts students in grades 8–12, this Tony Award-winning comedy will take the stage on Friday, October 17 at 7:00pm and Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 7:00pm.
A delightful tale of six quirky middle schoolers competing for the spelling championship of a lifetime, Spelling Bee blends sharp wit, catchy songs, and genuine heart. Along the way, the spellers—and the audience—learn that winning isn’t everything and that sometimes the journey is the real prize. With interactive elements and laugh-out-loud moments, this show promises a fun evening for all ages.
Audiences will be drawn into the antics of the contestants, their eccentric families, and the unforgettable adults running the competition. From soaring ballads to comedic showstoppers, the score captures the highs and lows of growing up, while delivering plenty of laughs along the way.
Performances take place at Surflight Theatre (201 Engleside Avenue) in Beach Haven, New Jersey. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students under 18 years-old and can be purchased at the Surflight Theatre Box Office or online at https://surflighttheatre.csstix.com. Students must present a valid school ID.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee opened on Broadway in 2005, earning critical acclaim and winning the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical. With music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin, the show quickly became a favorite for its humor, heart, and audience participation.
