(NEW YORK, NY) -- Set in New York City on the brink of a new millennium, the New York Premiere of The Boy From Kingsbridge captures the grit and energy of 1999. Written by Steven Sarao, the two-hander stars James Lorinz and Sarao as childhood friends who grow up to become NYPD officers. Directed by Anna Rebek, the play runs for seven performances from August 27 through September 5, 2025 as part of the Dream Up Festival at Theater for the New City.

In 1999, the Yankees were on top of the world, winning the American League Division Championship and embodying the spirit of teamwork and brotherhood. Against this backdrop, two lifelong friends from the Kingsbridge area of the Bronx navigate their daily routines as NYPD patrol officers. Their story is a gritty slice of life, capturing the essence of found family and friendship. Just as the Yankees relied on each other to achieve greatness, these two officers rely on one another to face the challenges of their demanding jobs.
Through shared experiences and unwavering support, they epitomize the power of partnership and camaraderie in the bustling streets of New York City.

Steven Sarao (Playwright/Stevie) is an accomplished actor holds a master’s degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School, focusing on Criminal Justice Policy and Management, with expertise in international and domestic terrorism shared what inspired him to write the play, “The truth is that reconnecting with old friends, deep relationships and how they can have so much influence on our lives was a major inspiration. Equally inspiring was the idea that police officers are lifelong members of our communities and intimately understand the significant problems facing New York City. They are often voiceless in a very politicized and media driven environment”.

Steven has performed Off Broadway in productions like "Twist of Faith," "The Ugly Wife," and "Pigs: An Experience with Steve Sarao." Sarao also holds a master’s degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School, focusing on Criminal Justice Policy and Management, with expertise in international and domestic terrorism. His writings have been published in notable outlets such as the Harvard Kennedy School Review and The Jewish Week. He is currently working on a historical memoir, "The Dreams of Boys Create Men," exploring small-town policing and social justice.
Additionally, Sarao is developing two new plays and will participate in the LaMama Umbria Playwrights Retreat in August 2025. He is a member of AEA-SAG-AFTRA, the Dramatist’s Guild, TRU, and The Actor’s Studio Playwright and Directors Unit (PDU) for 2025-2026.
