(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The Streetcar Project is bringing its much discussed and perpetually sold-out version of Tennessee Williams's landmark American play, A Streetcar Named Desire, to Asbury Park's historically haunted Carousel House from August 17-19, 2025. Performances are presented in association with the Asbury Book Cooperative.
An airplane hangar, a church, a bar, a warehouse, a dining hall, a movie theater, a factory, a library, a boutique, a barn...for the past two years The Streetcar Project has toured Tennessee Williams’ masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire, to unconventional spaces around the country. The landmark production reaches new heights (and depths), bringing its magic to the historic to Asbury Park's Carousel House, one of the most haunted locations in America.
Co-creators Nick Westrate and Lucy Owen have set out to create a production of the play like no other. By presenting Tennessee Williams’s complete, unabridged text with no props or set, this production is designed to be performed everywhere. It’s hyper intimate, completely unique, and incredibly revealing. It strips bare to the bones the greatest piece of American drama. You’ve never seen A Streetcar Named Desire like this before, and you never will again.
The production is directed by Nick Westrate and stars Lucy Owen, Brad Koed, Mallory Portnoy, Will Rogers and James Russell. It features production design by Nick Westrate and Lucy Owen.
Tickets are available for purchase online. Performances take place at 7:00pm each night. The Carousel House is located at 104-108 Asbury Avenue in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
In addition to these upcoming performances, The Streetcar Project will be featured as part of San Francisco’s A.C.T. season January 21-February 1, 2026.
The Streetcar Project is an independent commercial theater producer dedicated to centering the actor as the most crucial member of the process. They recognize all you need is a great text and a great actor to create great theater. They are dedicated to long-form rehearsal process, hiring working class actors and paying them a living wage.
The Streetcar Project was created by Lucy Owen and Nick Westrate in 2023 with the generous help of Ryan Hill. While they are a commercial entity they do accept donations to help foster and curate their new work through a not for profit fiscal partner.
