
The South Jersey Jazz Society is accepting applications for their 2025 Bob Simon Scholarship now through September 30, 2025. It will be presented to the most qualified student demonstrating his/her work as a promising jazz instrumentalist or vocalist. This award is available to middle and high school students in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Ocean counties.
To submit an application please send the following:
* A personal letter of the student explaining his/her reason for applying, which should include intention of the scholarship’s purpose/use.
* A recommendation letter from the school’s band director.
* A qualified sample of the student’s musical/jazz talent and ability in either a CD, mp3, or mp4 format.
The winner will be matched with a jazz musician and educator who meets the musical needs of the student winner. This will be organized and coordinated by Dr. Michael Pedicin.

The South Jersey Jazz Society has been in existence since 2004, and is governed by a board of directors consisting of up to 20 members. The Society is a membership organization that currently has over 350 paid members. Events are open to members and non-members alike, with discounts offered to members on some events. There are also some events that members can attend free. The Society has helped the local school district by providing them with funds to supplement their music and creative arts educational programs.
