(SUMMIT, NJ) -- Vivid Stage presents Summer Solos - their annual weekly reading series - Wednesdays throughout July on the lawn of the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. The series will include works by Kevin Daly, Elizabeth Strout, Megan Gogerty, and Eric Coble.
Bring a comfy lawn chair and your favorite snack and enjoy these summer evenings with Vivid Stage. Note: in case of rain or extreme heat, they will move the event inside. The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey is located at 68 Elm Street in Summit, New Jersey.
Wednesday, July 9 @ 6:30pm - Where is Everybody? by Kevin Daly. Kevin's father was a disappointment during his childhood, and an even bigger one when he became an adult. And twelve years ago Kevin ruined his father's retirement party. He wants to tell you why. Featuring Jason Szamreta.
Wednesday, July 16 @ 6:30pm - My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout; adapted by Rona Munro. Lucy Barton wakes after an operation to discover – much to her surprise – her mother at the foot of her bed. They haven’t seen each other in years. During their visit, Lucy begins to understand her past, come to terms with her family, and find herself as a writer. Featuring Harriett Trangucci.

Wednesday, July 30 @ 6:30pm - Side Effects May Include... by Eric Coble. Phil was living a relatively happily married life despite his complaints of his wife Maggie’s lack of interest in sex. Then she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and life got better. At least their sex life. Featuring Clark Carmichael.
Vivid Stage was founded in 1994 as Dreamcatcher Rep, and is a non-profit professional ensemble of actors who build community with the audience by sharing contemporary, life-affirming stories that challenge, energize and entertain. Their work has at its heart a belief in the essential goodness of people and the power of live performance to connect people through our shared humanity. They expose theatregoers to ideas and lives like and unlike their own with the intention of awakening their imaginations and creating empathy for others. They deepen the experience of all their patrons with personal contact through receptions, talkbacks, and interactive programs.
The company’s activities include mainstage productions, improvisational comedy and cabarets, new play readings and a variety of educational and senior outreach programs.

Gateway Playhouse to Hold Open Auditions for "9 to 5: The Musical"
