(MILLBURN, NJ) -- Pushcart Players, New Jersey's premier touring educational theater company, is proud to present a special Autism-Friendly performance of "Velveteen Rabbit" at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn on April 23, 2025 at 11:00am. This performance is designed to provide an inclusive and welcoming experience for everyone, but especially for families with young people on the Autism spectrum, as well as those with other developmental disabilities.

Autism-friendly performances (or “relaxed performances) are specially adapted to create a more supportive and sensory-friendly environment. In these performances, the traditional "rules of theater" are relaxed, allowing families and caregivers to enjoy the show without the stress of rigid expectations. With subtle changes such as softer lights and adjusted sound, as well as the ability for families to move around or take breaks if needed, the performance ensures a judgment-free space for all to enjoy the magic of live theater.

“Velveteen Rabbit” tells the story of how a young boy’s love and a little nursery magic help transform the Velveteen Rabbit from a favorite plaything into a real rabbit. The Boy and Velveteen embark on exciting imaginary adventures, from deep dark caves to the wide open sea, and together they learn the true meaning of friendship in this musical re-telling of one of America’s favorite storybooks. “Velveteen Rabbit’ is an imaginative performance designed to enhance the theater experience and increase literacy in the arts.

Tickets are $20 general admission for the Wednesday, April 23rd  performance of Velveteen Rabbit at Paper Mill Playhouse (22 Brookside Drive, Millburn) and are available for purchase online or by calling Paper Mill at 973.376.4343.
